Most role-play in the Grey Tower is done through message boards. Everyday role-plays are conducted at the Day to Day. Also, there is a specific message board made specifically for the Learning Ranks. You can find a list of IC message boards on the right hand menue of the main page under: In Character. We try to keep a few major role-plays going on at any particular time; a complete list of their URLs can be found here.

    How should I role-play?

Please refer to the Role-Play Section of the library for guidelines on good role-play.

Can I be in more than one roleplay at the same time?

Sure! Time is not much of an issue around the Grey Tower, and you will quickly discover that most people are involved in several 'threads' (roleplays or storylines) at once. As far as our characters are concerned, these take place at different times, despite the fact that we (the players) are posting simultaneously in "real world" time. This also means that when someone asks to meet you "first thing in the morning," they don't mean that in terms of the real world. It doesn't matter what time you post; for your character, it's first thing in the morning.

    What is a fanfic?

A fanfic is a written work set in the Wheel of Time world. Time and place is not important, though most of the works at the library deal with the lives and adventures of Grey Tower members.

Please read the complete list of guidelines if you plan to write a fanfic.

To whom should I send my fanfics?

Please submit your fanfic to the Keeper of the Chronicles or the Keeper of the Archives, at the admin address: <greytower1@yahoo.com>. If you write a fanfic as a raising requirement, you must also e-mail the text or the URL to the officer in charge of your raising. A form is also provided in the Library for submissions.

    What is a class?

A class is a series of lessons taught by an Accepted, Dedicated, Ji'Alantin, Aes Sedai, Asha'man, or Gaidin on a topic related to Grey Tower life. It is also a raising requirement for advancing to full rank.

A complete list of ongoing classes can be found at the Class List.

How do I join a class?

In most cases, a simple "May I join?" post is enough. Read the introduction post on the class message board (if there is one) for more specific instructions.

How do I pass a class?

If you answer all the teacher's questions, do all the assignments, and take the final exam, you have a very good chance of passing a class. However, the final decision is up to the class instructor.

How do I start a class?

Before you teach a class, you must have your class topic approved. To do this, e-mail the appropriate officer at the admin address with the following information:
    • the title of your class
    • a short description of the topics to be discussed (Note: There must be at least five lessons!)
    • who is allowed to join
    • any restrictions on the class size
    • how the class will be conducted (i.e. message board, e-mail, or chat)
    • the URL of the message board (if applicable)
When your class is approved, you may proceed.

What should I do when I finish teaching a class?

When your class is officially over, you must contact the Mistress of Novices, Master of Soldiers or the Master of Training to inform them that your class has finished. Include a list of students who passed your class. Warders and Warders-in-Training are requested to send a copy of their lessons and the best student responses (preferably in Word Document format) so it may be added to the Warder Yard Library.

    What are punishments?

If your lower-rank character is constantly breaking in-character rules at the Grey Tower, he/she should expect to be punished by Aes Sedai, Asha'man or Gaidin, just as at the White Tower in the books. For full details of the Punishments system, see the Punishments page
